Pop your milk at the back of the fridge – a quick fridge declutter will help – and you will be amazed by the difference it makes.

But sometimes we end up with more milk than we can use fresh.

Which is where the next hack comes in because we can actually store milk safely in the freezer.

2. Storing Milk In the Freezer

So you’re going away and you’ve got left over milk, what do you do?

Simple.

Grab an ice cube tray, pour your extra milk in and leave to freeze. Once frozen pop out the milk cubes into a freezer storage container for easy use.

In these small portions, the milk will defrost quickly in the fridge for using on cereal or in cooking. An ice cube is a few tablespoons worth of milk.

If you’ve lots of milk to freeze you can :

  • Use larger moulds e.g. lolly or frozen dessert moulds
  • Or freeze in a plastic carton.

Freezing Milk In Cartons

You can freeze milk safely in the carton. You just need to remember these key tips :

  1. Take a cup’s worth out of the carton as the milk will expand when frozen. You could freeze this extra in an ice cube tray.
  2. Defrost in a bowl of cold water, it will take ages in the fridge.
  3. Shake well when defrosted.
  4. Use defrosted milk within 48 hours.
