Stunning ancient woodland.
Beautiful old oak and beech trees.
That are just perfect for climbing.
And den building. And playing hide & seek.
Awesome views for miles and miles.
An adorable farm for children to visit.
AND a castle tower to climb.
AND it’s RIGHT here in London!!!
Yep, seriously.
London’s lovely Oxleas Wood has ALL this to offer and more.
It’s beyond Blackheath, at the top of Shooter’s Hill.
AND if you haven’t discovered it yet, you MUST!
It’s the most amazing place for adventures all through the year.
Do go and explore.
Getting To Oxleas Wood
There is parking for Oxleas Wood at the top of Shooter’s Hill.
And a tiny bit at Woodlands Farm.
BUT why drive when you don’t have to?
Falconwood station is 5 or so minutes walk from the bottom of the wood.
And the 89 and 486 buses stop twice at the top of the wood.
The Woodlands Farm stop is by the farm.
You can hop on the 486 at Charlton station and the 89 at Blackheath, Lewisham or Welling stations
We love getting the 89 from Blackheath. You get fab views of the heath from the top deck. AND all over London as you go up and down Shooters Hill.
With bigger kids you can walk to Oxleas Wood on section three or six of the Green Chain Walk.
Refreshments At Oxleas Wood
There’s a cafe in Oxleas Meadow by the car park.
And a tea room at Woodlands Farm.
A little bit further off – a mile from the bottom of the wood – is the lovely Tudor Barn pub.
Literally a pub in a Tudor barn with a moat where E Nesbitt of Railway Children fame lived!
I do hope you enjoy the wood.
