30 little declutter projects you can complete in 5 minutes a day that will build your declutter habit and make it easier and easier to let stuff go ... #declutter #habits #simplicity #overwhelm

Decluttering’s hard, right?

NO. It’s not.

Honest.

I used to think it was too.

Until I got the daily declutter habit.

And learned to let go of just a little bit of stuff. Everyday.

The benefits are seriously massive.

And as I shared before, a wonderful motivation to start decluttering.

And to keep going.

BUT how do you actually get the daily declutter habit?

WELL the basic idea is to let go of just 10 things everyday.

And that will shift a load of stuff. I promise.

BUT when you’ve got a beast in the basement.

OR the garage or the shed or the attic.

OR you’re drowning in boxes, paperwork, your partner’s stuff, your parents stuff, your kids’ stuff, sentimental things, collectibles, freebies, stockpiles, eBay finds and much much more, even 10 things can feel hard.

Your brain whirrs. Aaaarrggh!

And you’re worried, you might need it some day.

If this sounds all too familiar, don’t worry.

You ARE not alone.

And there are TWO cool techniques you can use to develop the daily declutter habit:

  1. Tap into your existing habits
  2. Get yourself a good old list!

OR even do both 🙂

I’ve explained all about tapping into your existing habits here.

AND I’ve got a list below of 30 tiny declutter projects.

You can tick off one a day.

And they will ONLY take you 5 minutes.

IF you stick to these rules …

The 5 Minute Daily Declutter Rules

The first most important rule is … you only take FIVE minutes.

We’re building a feedback loop to tell your brain decluttering is quick.

And easy.

Stick to 5 minutes every day and your brain gets the message.

The second rule is … DO NOT yank stuff out.

Just open the relevant doors or drawer for that project.

And open your eyes to what you’ve got.

And spot anything you are ready to let go.

It might be broken. A duplicate. Something you never liked.

Or never use.

It might be 10 things. But initially, it might be one.

Every single thing you let go will help you let go more the next day.

After 5 minutes, SHUT the doors or drawer.

Pop your finds in your charity bag, recycling or the trash bin.

And repeat tomorrow.

Working one by one through the list below will get you into the daily declutter habit.

AND you can easily top up your habit with the following …

Daily Declutter Top Up

Everyday, take just a few minutes to …

  1. Keep your eyes peeled for easy stuff to  recycle – e.g. old newspapers, magazines, programmes, unneeeded receipts, expired tickets, fliers, take away menus, vouchers, directories etc
  2. Empty your pockets and purse or bag and bin the rubbish
  3. Empty your inside trash bins outside

It’s as simple as that.

Don’t think about it too much.

Don’t come up with a grand plan.

Just hit the first project on the list below, set your timer … and GO!
