It’s so easy to get stucks indoors, isn’t it?
But with even just a little bit of sunshine, you can get out and paint!.
It’s the simplest thing.
It doesn’t need fancy preparation and planning.
And it’s SO much fun!
Because painting outdoors lets kids paint BIG.
And paint with their bodies.
And splatter and spray paint everywhere, Jackson Pollock style!
And paint on the move with cars and trains and trikes.
And paint with nature.
And paint their home town any colour under the sun!
Hurrah!!!
And ALL your kids need is paint.
PLUS big dollops of imagination.
You can keep them inspired AND outdoors all summer long, doing nothing more than painting.
To get them started, I’ve got for you over 30 super cool ways to have fun painting outdoors.
Enjoy!
30 Cool Ways To Paint Outdoors
1. Paint Big
BIG is good!
And outdoors – in the garden or park – kids can paint on a scale there’s not room for indoors.
They can paint cardboard or on old sheets or on canvas or on wall paper …
2. Body Painting
Outdoors kids can use their whole bodies to paint.
There’s all sorts of fun ways to finger paint and hand paint.
Or just roll out some paper and do freestyle feet painting …
And when you’ve done that cover with bubble wrap for super fun sensory stomp painting (viewsfromastepstool.com) …
Or paint these cool body shadows (rhythmsofplay.com) …
3.Splatter & Spray Painting
There’s so much to love about getting kids painting outdoors.
But one of the best things HAS to be splattering and spraying paint everywhere.
Without us parents getting in a tizzy.
You can just straight forward splatter paint with brushes (artfulparent.com) …
Or splatter with pipettes (twitchetts.com) …
Or add some shapes with masking tape and splatter on top (buggyandbuddy.com) …
You can drop splat paint from a height (fun-a-day.com) …
And you can paint with squirt guns (firefliesandmudpies.com) …
Or water pistols (messylittlemonster.com) …
Or spray bottles (adventure-in-a-box.com) …
You can splatter paint with balloons (mosswoodconnections.com) …
Or syringes (science-sparks.com) …
Or ping pong shooters (fantasticfunandlearning.com) …
You can even paint with a catapult (fun-a-day.com) …
3. Paint On The Move
And outdoors our kids can actually paint on the move …
… with cars.
Or even on trikes (myboredtoddler.com) …
They can paint by rolling balls (fantasticfunandlearning.com)
Or rolling rocks.
Or for something totally different, paint with slinking slinkies (fantasticfunandlearning.com)
4. Decorating Outdoors
Painting outdoors is the perfect time to decorate something.
And again, particularly something BIG!
You can paint a box … or lots of them ….
You could paint on fabric and make a flag.
Or decorate rocks – Kandinsky style or any which way you like (artycraftykids.com) …
… or decorate flower pots …(messylittlemonster.com)
You could paint old guttering (adventuresandplay.com) …
Or even paint the car (fun-a-day.com) …
WITH washable paint of course!
AND then have even more fun giving it a good old clean.
Or if you’re not so keen on mess, paint the fence – without paint
5. Nature Painting
One of my absolute fave things about painting outdoors, is that we actually get to use the great outdoors in our paintings AND explore nature whilst we’re at it.
You can add fallen petals to your paintings for lovely petal pictures …
Or create bird nest collages …
You can paint with mud (learnplayimagine.com) …
… and with pine leaves (applegreencottage.com)
… and feathers …
… and flowers (messylittlemonster.com) …
… or when autumn comes fir cones and conkers (kidscraftroom.com) …
In fact with anything at all your kids find!
6. Paint Your Town Pink
But finally, remember you don’t have to stay home …
… to paint outdoors.
Take your paints out for a trip in your town.
Plonk yourself down somewhere pretty.
And paint away … just like real painters always have.
I hope you have an awesome summer of fun painting outdoors.
